Nowadays, we are well aware of the health benefits of green tea and how it affects our body and mind. At the same time, many people do not like the taste of green tea. There is a solution and its name is Matcha Green Tea.
Matcha tea is highly nutritional and more beneficial for our health and natural weight loss than the regular green tea
Matcha’s health benefits depend on its production process
Matcha is sourced from the same plant that is used to make most of the green, oolong, and black teas: camellia sinensis. Its growth, harvest, and production are different from other teas. Depending on the variety, the quality might also be distinguished. The highest grade matcha originates from the Samidori, Okumidori, and Yabukita, three Japanese tea farms.
The main difference between Japanese and other types of teas is production process. To stop further oxidization and retain the vivid green color, freshly harvested tea leaves are steamed at very high temperature. The final step is the grinding the leaves into a fine powder. In the old days, this was done on a stone mill but now, large granite wheels that rotate very slowly are used.
The powder particles that are ground by this process are only about 4 microns small. The process takes a very long time as well, usually one hour to grind between 30 to 70g of matcha. The resulting powder must be refrigerated at low temperatures quickly, otherwise, it will begin to oxidize and lose its fine flavor.
Powdered matcha tea has the best nourishing effects.
Matcha is whole tea leaves. When drinking matcha green tea, we consume the whole leaf and receive 100% of the nutrients of the tea. For a maximal nourishing impact, choose loose powdered tea. Additionally, matcha is delightfully sprinkled over yogurt or berries. It is also a delicate addition to salt for a savory taste to eggs and fish.
Matcha tea is made from shade-covered leaves. This process increases the chlorophyll content of the leaf and produces a full-bodied, creamy vegetal taste, with an astringent note, depending on the grade of tea.
